honestly, we got off to a little rocky start this morning and now i realize just how much effort aaron puts into the blog. it takes a heck of a lot of time to write and put up a blog. so after writing and uploading images for over almost 2 hours this morning i was frustrated and annoyed. i was on a mini vacation after all and as much as i wanted to blog this whole trip it felt a little like work and i wanted to go play. so i did. breakfast. normally i am a full fledged cereal girl but i think i could give it up for the almond croissants from the standard baking company. they were simply delightful. if you could only smell this mouth watering deliciousness right now you'd be in heaven and you'd realize why my mouth is watering as i write this. that and a nice hot cup of coffee with quite a bit of half & half & my morning was complete.
aaron and i spent the afternoon roaming the city, shopping and taking in the sights. we love the idea of buying locally and it seems so does portland. i saw this great bumper sticker that said "buy locally - keep portland independent." we wholeheartedly agree. we found this great little store called urban general store and just loved the idea of it. back home we often shop our farmers markets and local rockford stores.
seafood has to be my all time favorite food. i think i could eat sushi any time or day! so as we were headed out of town we stopped and checked out,  free range fish & lobster, a local fishing market down near the port. while we were there we got to see this extremely rare blue lobster, the kid said they are 1 in 30 million.
we have always known our strong love for food but it wasn't until the owner, steve, of clam shack called us foodies that we realized that is exactly what we are - foodies. we met steve while we were headed back down the coast to boston for our flight back home. we stopped in kennebunk and grabbed some lunch/dinner. we knew we couldn't leave maine without a lobster roll and some fried clams. we saw this little place yesterday so we decided to give it a try. our instincts didn't steer us wrong. the lobster roll was so fresh and so simple with tons of succulent lobster meat. we had a choice of the fried clams and went with the whole fried belly ones. they even had some cole slaw, possibly the best i've ever had. no doubt if we tried more on the menu it would be just as good. steve actually gave us a hot cup of clam chowder on the house which was perfect for the cooler afternoon. i think i have a new appreciation for the cup of soup, so thank you steve! we snuck inside his storefront and checked out the fresh seafood and got to "play" with a lobster. see aaron's and his lobster, he's all nice and friendly and let aaron hold him so gently...  see me with my lobster, that's right  i got the angry bucking lobster, all jumpy and fidgety and tail whippity. he was a hostile sucker. but i did like i planned and picked him up, yeah i don't think he liked that he's all whipping me with his tail and like "put me down lady!" so i did.
we then headed back over to minka this great little jewelry store and i bought these fabulous earrings. i feel really bad, well sort of because i bought these right off the owner, literally. she had them on. and i complemented her. she was like "try them on." and i did. and i loved them. and i bought them. and now i can't wait to wear them!
so here i am, sitting at the airport after we missed our first flight, blogging. i feel very blessed to have such a wonderful husband that made this all possible. i think all too often in life we take things and people we love for granted. thank you aaron for seeing how much i needed to get away from it all.  it was a much needed weekend and now it's time to head home and see all our babies.
thank you aaron, i love you.
