megan & ben

January 13, 2011 wedding

megan was a waitress at a bar, ben was a bouncer.  that was a few years ago when we all became friends.  i worked with both of them for a while, megan is such a sweetheart and believe it or not, ben is just a big ole teddy bear.  when we started white shutter photography, megan told me that if she ever got engaged, the first phone call she would make (after her mom of course) would to book us.  you could imagine my excitement last year when i got that call, knowing how much they glow when they’re around each other, this was one we didn’t want to miss.  and miss this one we almost did!

megan grew up in bourbonnais.  her grandmother was married at st. george catholic church,  her mother was married at st. george catholic church, so of course megan was getting married at st. george catholic church.  we knew it was going to be a long drive, but we didn’t realize that it would take us over five hours to get there, and that the wedding would be delayed by 15 minutes for us.

we started off our morning in rockford and drove to the western suburbs to drop off the boys at grandma & grandpa’s house.  while driving there, i noticed a sign indicating that the eisenhower was shut down due to flooding.  i paid little attention to it, because we weren’t taking the eisenhower.  the night before we had torrential rainstorms and unbeknownst to us, every road in the vicinity of where we were traveling through was shut down due to flooding.  after we dropped off the kids, we drove around in circles trying to get through.  what should have been a short 5 minute drive down route 83 turned into a 2 hour nightmare.  luckily for us, megan & ben are not only clients, but good friends as well, so when we called them to give them an update, they were totally understanding.  with 2:00 pm ceremony start, we pulled up to the church at 2:01.  thankfully, we had an understanding priest who delayed the start until 2:15, for us and for the other guests running late.  the first shot in this blog is of megan, more than happy to see philan and showing her emotion as philan recanted the morning events.

on their first date, they shared a bottle of patrón.  so on our way to the reception, the trolly made a stop at a little liquor store… and of course i had to take them in to get a shot… hence the patrón shot.  i loved her flowers, there was just something about them, the purples and blues just stood out from the white flowers, they were perfect.  and ben looked pretty good holding them too.

we finished off the day at the kankakee elks country club, where we celebrated all night long.  some of us more than others…

even though the day started out a bit rough for us, it ended up being the perfect day for a wedding.  shake ‘n’ bake.
